My method uses techniques from programs like Lindamood Bell and Orton Gillingham. As you may know, this approach involves drills, rote learning and lots of repetition. I’ve seen these methods yield amazing results; however, they can also be tedious. My job is to get your child on board for the challenge and to inspire them to put the work into becoming confident readers and writers.
Personal Projects
Working with me, your child will get both technical drills and meaningful, project-based learning. My approach combines traditional academic drills with projects that are inspired by your child’s specific interests and goals. For example:
If your child is into soccer, then we might learn the ABC’s by taping them onto a soccer ball.
If your child is obsessed with Minecraft, we might write a pretend user’s guide to the game.
If your child is a dancer, we might write a story about a dance performance.
Multisensory Learning.
Even if our session is online, our time together will include movement and physicality. Depending on your child’s interests our sessions might also include music, and visual arts.
Emotional Regulation
If your child is struggling with anxiety, depression or other stressors that are getting in the way of learning, then I can work with them on breathing and other techniques that help with emotional regulation.
